Insurance: The student need not provide evidence of insurance policy with visa application; however, they are required to declare that they will make the necessary arrangements to meet this condition.

Therefore they are required to insure from the date of finalization of admission until the expiry of visa.

Where universities arrange insurance it may only cover the length of course of study rather than the period of student visa. If so the remaining stay in New Zealand owing to holiday or work an extension of insurance policy is required. If the insurance is not done the student is liable for deportation.

You may be allowed to work for up to 20 hours per week during the academic year. You are also eligible to work full-time during the Christmas and New Year holiday period at the end of academic year.

If the student wishes to change your course of study or university they must first obtain a variation of conditions and approach Immigration New Zealand immediately. You must undertake to continue to meet student instructions.

How To Apply

Application Procedure

There are mainly two intakes for New Zealand education. One being February and second being July. A tentative intake of September also is considered sometimes and for some institutions.

Steps to enroll at the University:

  • Fill the application form and return it. At times, this can also be done through online, but still the documents need to be couriered or to be posted.
  • After receiving your documents, the institute will send you an offer letter stating start dates and course details, and an invoice for the tuition fees.
  • Pay the fees.
  • Then you will get a confirmation for the payment done.
  • If your course exceeds 12 weeks, you can apply for a student visa at your nearest New Zealand Embassy.

IELTS Requirement

The preferable bands in IELTS examination are: 

  • For undergraduate students: 6.5 bands.
  • For postgraduate students: 7.5 bands. 

Documents necessary for applying: 

  • Attested copies of all educational certificates and documents.
  • At least 2 Letters of Recommendations from the professors who taught you the latest.
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Bonafide letter from the employer if you have work experience.
  • Photo Copy of Official Score card of IELTS/TOEFL.

Below are the basic requirements for getting an admission in a New Zealand University:

  • Statement of Purpose

Student Visa

Part-time study carries fewer hours or fewer papers than full-time study. If a person desires to study part-time and hold a New Zealand visitor visa or work visa, he/she will have to apply for a variation of conditions to allow unless:

The employer has authorized your course of study or training.

Students studying less than 20 hours each week to finish course of study may be eligible for a student visa.

To get a student visa in New Zealand, one needs to check whether the fees are domestic.

If a student is enrolling a course for the first time, they should have an offer letter from the University.

The offer should contain:

  • University or the institution's name and contact details
  • The name of the course and the minimum time required for completing it, and
  • Proof that the course meet New Zealand’s requirements,
  • The amount of the fee for the complete course, and
  • Proof that you are planning to leave.

80% of the student visa applications will not take more than one month to process and it costs US$8,439.
